Fundraising summary

We got rather wet hanging out the bunting, sent for the emergency gazebos and emergency gazebo putter-uppers, worried about where to put the cake stall and how to keep the books dry, but right on time the sun shone on Hunsdon and we were set for another very successful day.

This year was special and marked the Grand Opening of the new Ducklings facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.  To show their appreciation to all the villagers, their families and friends, Ducklings laid on some free entertainment in the form of Doody with his circus skills workshops and Paradise Park who brought along visitors with fur, feathers and scales.

Miss Tugwell’s Dance Club also put on a marvellous show of their dance routines and towards the end of the afternoon other children took their place in the arena to show off their circus skills.

Hunsdon Tigers Cubs Pack brought their Bookswap (strategically situated next to the Book Tombola to facilitate needy swaps).  The Cubs also ran a human fruit machine and donated 50% of their takings to the Friends.  Group Scout Leader Gwen and her Scouting daughter Fiona came prepared ….. and helped out on the face painting stall.

Harlow Sportcentre brought along a Giant Twister game which provided some more free fun and we saw some expert moves among some of the year 1 children in particular.

Other stalls included cake decorating, hook the duck, toy stall, guess the weight of the cake, marbles in a jar, & name the fairy (whose name, by the way, was India).  On the bric a brac stall unprecedented sales techniques were demonstrated by Karen Paice who sold me something I donated the previous year!

Kevin and crew did a grand job on the barbeque and we have really to say a huge thank you to for the generosity of Braughing sausages and Bridget B’s for their donations.  The barbeque crew even provided a free delivery service this year and Doody helped to promote their wares with some helpful announcements about discounted prices!

Von and Hemi’s donations to the Pimms stall without doubt helped to make the day a roaring success.

Jonathan Hunt brought along a balloon filled car with a prize of champagne for guessing the right number (answer 55, joint winners Glen Arnold and Lydia Barker).

Bethany won the ‘Guess the Number of Marbles’ game—actual number was 97.

Sarah and Di did a roaring trade serving tea, coffee & cake, cold drinks and ice creams.

We must also say thank you to Nana Pat for making the superb cake for ‘Guess the Cake Weight’.

Thank you to all who supported us.
